Recording Consent
Notabium records what the microphone of your device hears. You decide whether and when to record, and you are responsible for making sure that others know about it and agree.
The rule that is enough: at the start of the meeting, say that you are recording, why, and what you will do with the recording. If someone does not agree, do not record.
What the law says
- Slovakia: under § 12(1) of the Civil Code (Občiansky zákonník), audio recordings relating to a natural person or to expressions of a personal nature may be made or used only with that person's consent. The exceptions (official purposes under a law, scientific and artistic purposes, news reporting) do not usually apply to an ordinary work meeting.
- Czech Republic: under § 86 of the Czech Civil Code (Act No. 89/2012 Coll.), an audio recording of a person's private life must not be made without their consent. For work meetings, always say that you are recording, and record only with consent.
- GDPR: a recording in which people can be identified contains their personal data. If you record a work meeting, you or your company are the controller of their data. You must have a legal basis and tell people who is making the recording, what for and how long you will keep it.
- Other countries have their own rules. If you meet people from other countries, follow the stricter rule.
This is a short overview, not legal advice. In sensitive situations (health, legal matters, employees, children), consult a professional.
How to do it in practice
- Before you press record, say something like: “Do you mind if I record the meeting? I will use it only for notes and a follow-up email. AI will create the transcript and summary, and I can delete the recording afterwards.”
- Wait for a clear yes. If you do not get one, do not record.
- If someone joins later, say it again.
- If someone wants you to delete the recording, delete the meeting in the app. The audio and video are deleted too.
- Share the transcript and summary only with those they belong to.
What Notabium does
- Before recording in the web app, you confirm that you have notified the participants. We store this confirmation and its time with the meeting.
- No bot joins the meeting, and the app does not record without your instruction. You start and stop recording, and it is visible on the screen while recording.
- Our processors handle the audio for transcription and artificial intelligence, including in the USA. In Chrome, live captions go through Google speech recognition. Recordings are stored in the EU and are visible only to you and those you share them with. We do not use them for AI training. More in the Privacy Policy.
Are you in someone's recording?
If you think someone recorded you through Notabium without your knowledge, contact them first, because they decide about the recording. If that does not help, write to privacy@notabium.com.
